Humans of New York creator Brandon Stanton is creating a historic art project that will debut at Grand Central .
The project, Dear New York, will be the largest public art installation in the city in decades and a true cultural moment.
For two weeks, from October 6-19, Grand Central will be cleared of advertising for the first time in its history. More than 150 digital screens, normally reserved for ads and announcements, will be unified to showcase thousands of portraits and stories from the Humans of New York archive—a sweeping “visual love letter” to the city.
Highlights include:
Main Concourse: 50-foot projections, designed with acclaimed production designer David Korins (Hamilton, Dear Evan Hansen, Immersive Van Gogh).
Subway Tunnels: A full-scale takeover across both levels, designed by Pentagram—the most extensive physical use of subway space to date.
Vanderbilt Hall: Live programming and artwork from emerging NYC artists, including student submissions from NYC public schools.
Access: Free and open to the public, 24 hours a day.
