Solar Eclipse in NYC

On April 8, there will be a total solar eclipse in the US! In NYC, the best time to view is at 3:25 PM, when 90% of the sun will be blocked by the moon. Don’t miss this incredible sight!

It’s very important to protect your eyes by wearing ISO-certified solar viewing glasses. You can get FREE pairs of eclipse glasses at:

☀️ Flatiron Solar Eclipse Viewing Party (Flatiron North Plaza, Manhattan) 12-3:30pm: Join for a Partial Solar Eclipse Viewing Party. An afternoon full of science and family-friendly activities in celebration of this unique phenomenon. In collaboration with the Flatiron NoMad Partnership and the Simons Foundation.

Brooklyn Botanic Garden Solar Eclipse Community Event (990 Washington Ave, Brooklyn) 1-5pm: Gather on the Garden’s lawns to marvel at the sky as the moon passes between the Earth and sun. Participate in our Garden-wide experiment and let us know what you see. The eclipse will last from 2:10 to 4:36 p.m., peaking at 3:25 p.m. Free ISO-certified solar eclipse glasses provided by Warby Parker while supplies last.
☀️ Green-Wood Cemetery (500 25th Street, Brooklyn) 1:30-5pm: Gather in Green-Wood’s Meadow and at the Historic Chapel, where you can enjoy the celestial spectacle through special-edition glasses and telescopes equipped with solar filters. Amateur astronomers will be on hand to operate telescopes and answer questions. The celebration will include: self-guided explorations and artist-led activations, including an intimate soil soundscape installation, a community mural with the Red Hook Art Project, a listening session pop-up with Sacred Bones Records, and a gong sound bath by Samer Ghadry alongside NASA’s livestream of the eclipse from the path of totality.
☀️ American Museum of Natural History Solar Eclipse Day (200 Central Park West) 12-5pm: Join at the Museum before the eclipse for family-friendly educational activities and to receive your eclipse glasses, while supplies last! Museum entry is Pay What You Wish for New Yorkers
☀️ Wave Hill Solar Eclipse Viewing Day (4900 Independence Avenue, Bronx) 12-5pm: Experience this amazing celestial event from Wave Hill’s open lawns with spectacular views of the Hudson River and open sky above. Pot up some seeds and make a festive eclipse party hat or celestial floral headband at our activity stations and enjoy live music and story time with the Riverdale Library. There's solar-spirited fun for all at this community event!
☀️ Snapple Solar Speakeasy (541 W 25th St, Manhattan) 12-5pm: Join us for a Ridiculously Flavorful™ event to celebrate the newest Snapple flavor launch during the 2024 total solar eclipse at a one-day viewing party.

☀️ Battery Park City Viewing Party (Rockefeller Park, Manhattan) 2:30-4:30pm: Get ready for an ‘out of this world’ experience! Take part in an art project and enjoy a sun-sational time with the BPCA staff.

☀️ Downtown Brooklyn x NYU Tandon: Solar Eclipse Viewing Party (Brooklyn Commons Park, Brooklyn) 3-4pm: Join NYU Tandon, Brookfield Properties, and Downtown Brooklyn Partnership for a solar eclipse viewing party in the Commons! Come by to watch the solar eclipse with friends and grab a pair of Tandon-exclusive sunglasses (plus other exciting swag).
