WhatsApp Global Privacy Experience

  • The High Line Coach Passage New York, NY, 10011 United States (map)

This weekend, WhatsApp will launch a global activation in four cities around the world - New York, London, New Delhi, and São Paulo. This activation is the latest in a series of moments from the recently launched ‘Not Even WhatsApp’ global privacy campaign - WhatsApp’s biggest marketing campaign to date.

In New York, WhatsApp is taking over the High Line with a large-scale public installation designed to visualize one of its core promises: no one, not even WhatsApp, can see your private messages.

The installations will be at the High Line Coach Passage (entrance at 34th St - Hudson Yards) and will feature a series of experiences that bring to life the importance of privacy in your everyday life.

Experiences include:

  • Lenticular “chat bubbles” that block your image from view, illustrating how WhatsApp hides messages from everyone but sender and receiver

  • Directional audio signage that whispers a private message only to one person at a time

  • Emoji swings that create a disappearing illusion mid-air

  • A pixelated photo booth that simulates the visual equivalent of end-to-end encryption

  • A coded cushion puzzle hidden in a quiet corner, encouraging interpretation of visual messages

This moment in the ‘Not Even WhatsApp’ global privacy campaign will bring privacy to some of the most recognizable places in the world, going live on the High Line in New York, The Southbank in London, Ibirapuera Park in São Paulo, and Connaught Place Plaza in New Delhi.

For WhatsApp users who want to check they have the right level of protection, Privacy Checkup puts all your privacy and security settings for WhatsApp in one place right inside the app. Options include who can contact you and stop unwanted calls and messages. You can also adjust who can add you to groups, silence unknown callers, and manage your blocked contacts.
